Description
Teen Outward Bound Trip
Everglades Canoeing
Imagine paddling through the Everglades while watching glorious sunsets, seeing exotic and abundant wildlife, remote wilderness and wide-open stretches of space. This area is much like a puzzle and a challenge to navigate.
The Everglades National Park is a premiere area for viewing wildlife. You will explore aquatic preserves, sharing the water with dolphins, manatees, jumping fish, horseshoe crabs, bioluminescence and mantra rays. The varied landscape includes mangrove tunnels, hardwood and tropical hammocks, salt and freshwater marshes, cypress swamps and dry prairies.
Survey your surroundings for important landmarks. Shoot a bearing with your compass. Use a chart to determine your location. Observe bald eagles, woodpeckers, osprey and belted kingfishers. Then paddle hard through rivers, bays and warm Gulf waters to your next destination.
Spend the night on a chickee at Pearl Bay or 'boarded up' on your canoes along Roberts River. Discover more about the rich cultural history of the area as you learn about the Calusa, Seminole and Miccosukee Native American tribes and other settlers who bravely ventured into this "last American frontier."
The expert staff at Outward Bound will teach you everything you need to know to travel comfortably--how to pack appropriately, set up tents, paddle a canoe and navigate using a nautical chart.
